About the Doula

IMG_2416_edited_edited.jpg

I help expecting families walk into birth with the same confidence, control, and grace they bring to the rest of their lives. Since 2022, I’ve guided clients through home and hospital births, taught childbirth education in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole, and led the Doula Program at The Birthing Circle of Frederick.

I’m certified in Neonatal Resuscitation, Infant and Adult CPR/AED, birth assisting, and prenatal yoga — and was one of only seven doulas selected for UPMC Harrisburg’s Birth Circle pilot program, partnering with hospital staff to provide high-quality doula care.

I’ve been trusted to advocate for women at every level of care — from strategic, concierge support to high-stakes hospital situations. I also serve my community through the Chambersburg Diaper Depot, Coyle Free Library pregnancy events, and the Healthy Franklin County Health Disparities Task Force. My clients love knowing they’re not only getting the best for themselves, but also contributing to a mission that improves birth outcomes for women everywhere.

My approach is deeply shaped by my heritage: a Colombian midwife great-grandmother who served her entire coastal village, a grandmother who birthed and raised ten children, a nurse mother specializing in neonatal sleep, and a paternal grandmother whose life was tragically lost to postpartum depression. Their legacies fuel my commitment to ensuring every client leaves birth with her dignity, desires, and decisions fully intact supported by the education, preparation, and unwavering advocacy she needs both in and beyond the birthing room.

Hi! I'm Andrea.

Andrea Unzaga Burgos
Birth and Postpartum Doula

Hiermanna is a full-spectrum doula and a resource center for reproductive women of all ages. Offering educational workshops in addition to birth and postpartum support, Hiermanna's purpose is to harbor the knowledge, network, and care women need to live optimally—from the first menstrual cycle to the last.

Women's bodies are intelligently designed, only seeming complex and untrustworthy to those unaware of how it works. There aren't any formal, easily-accessible spaces for women to learn and discuss the anatomy and physiology behind their bodies. Expectedly, there are even fewer resources for the opposite sex to understand how they can facilitate the bodies responsible for cultivating life. Beyond that, the demographic groups affected most by issues related to women's health are paralleled by their lack of access to information.

Hiermanna's purpose is to educate, nurture, and empower womben of all ages, races, ethnicities, religious beliefs, gender expressions, financial and educational backgrounds to reclaim their bodies, and restore ancestral wisdom and faith in our human design.

The prefix Hier comes from the Greek word hieros, meaning powerful, supernatural, holy, and sacred. Manna, a word of Hebrew and biblical origin,  represents God's hand. A homophone to its Spanish translation, una Hermana is a female member of the family, and sisterhood uniting us all on Earth. Hiermanna involves God in all aspects of birth and community work.  Hiermanna is not religious, but the nature of any organization providing service to women, God's magnum opus, is inherently spiritual.

Despite the use of the term Woman and the language used throughout Hiermanna's copy catering to femme and womb-carrying individuals, Hiermanna is an LGBTQ+ ally and does not discriminate against any gender or sexual orientation.
